How to buy a gun online

Buying a firearm online starts with choosing a licensed dealer to receive it. Here's what to arrange before you order from Booga's Guns and what happens when your firearm arrives.

Before you place an order

Check the laws where you live and where the transfer will take place. Make sure the firearm is legal for you to purchase and possess, and confirm that your receiving dealer will accept the transfer. For a shipped order, we send the firearm to a federal firearms licensee (FFL), who handles the transfer to you. We do not ship a firearm directly to your home.

Federal law generally requires you to be at least 18 to receive a rifle or shotgun from a licensed dealer, and at least 21 for a handgun or another firearm that is not classified as a rifle or shotgun. That 21-year category includes frames and receivers (such as complete AR or AK receivers and stripped lower receivers) and stockless shotgun-style firearms classified as other firearms. State and local rules may be stricter.

For a shipped firearm purchase, the receiving FFL is generally in your state of residence. Active-duty military members may qualify as residents of the state of their permanent duty station. Ask your receiving dealer if you are unsure which rules apply to you.

1. Arrange the transfer with an FFL dealer

  • Choose an FFL dealer in the state where you can lawfully take delivery, generally your state of residence. Ask whether they will receive a firearm from Booga's Guns, what they charge for the transfer, and whether local paperwork, permits, or a waiting period apply. Use the dealer's address as the shipping address when you order.
  • Give the dealer our name and ask them to send a copy of their FFL to FFL@BoogasGuns.com or fax it to (803) 317-6334. Include your name and order number, if available, so we can match the license to your order.

2. Pick up your firearm and complete the transfer

Watch the tracking information we provide. Once the shipment arrives, call your FFL dealer to arrange a pickup time. Do not assume the firearm is ready for pickup as soon as tracking shows delivery; the dealer first needs to receive and process it.

At the dealer, you will complete ATF Form 4473 and the dealer will conduct the required background check through NICS or the applicable state process, unless a lawful exception applies. Bring the identification and any other documents your dealer requires. You can take the firearm home only after the dealer can lawfully complete the transfer and all applicable requirements, including any waiting period, are met.

A note about straw purchases

Straw purchasing is illegal, and Booga's Guns does not condone it. You must truthfully identify the actual buyer on ATF Form 4473. Do not buy a firearm on someone else's behalf while falsely claiming to be the actual buyer. If you have questions about a gift or another transfer, ask the receiving FFL before ordering.

Questions about your transfer?

Email Glenn@BoogasGuns.com or call (803) 687-3966. Your receiving FFL can answer questions about local transfer requirements. You can also review the ATF's guidance for licensed dealers.
